Welcome back to Up a Creek, a publication about writing and storytelling, relating the lessons I’ve learned in a 20-plus-year career as a comic book writer and author.
It’s here! My first novel, GODFALL, is out today from Flyover Fiction. It’s a genre blend of sci-fi and murder mystery, and it’s received just incredible advance praise from novelists and reviewers.
“Revelatory,” says Foreword Reviews.
“A gripping, fast-paced, genre-bending novel full of heart and wonder,” says Library Journal.
“I was under this book’s strange and extraordinary spell from start to finish!” says Dan Chaon.
I’m super proud of it, and I’d love for you to check it out. If you’re an Amazon shopper, buying a copy right here in the next two days will be a huge boost to bump the book up the rankings, which in turn draws more attention to it.
But I’d also be grateful for you to check out the book in any way.
Godfall headed to TV
Remember that news I teased last week? Well, it’s out. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Godfall was the subject of a bidding war and that the TV rights sold to Imagine Entertainment.
And not only that, but Academy Award-winner Ron Howard himself is going to be directing!
Wait… RON HOWARD? Yes, Ron Howard. Directing a TV series. Based on my book.
I grew up on Ron’s films. I’ve continued to adore him and his work since then. (If you haven’t seen Frost/Nixon, go treat yourself.) He’s a legend, and also every bit as thoughtful and nice as you’d expect. And somehow, someway, he read my book and liked it so much that he decided to adapt it.
Life sure is wild, isn’t it?
More news on that adventure in the new year, I’m sure. But in the meanwhile, I’m headed back to Nebraska for a book launch event for Godfall, and then I’ll have a signing in Atlanta as well.
I’ll plan to get back to writing advice with the next edition, but for now, I’m just celebrating.
As always, thank you for reading. If you’d like to learn more about me and my writing, please visit vanjensen.com. You can like and comment on the post below! Till next time…
